Officials speak out on mask mandate lift

KHQA 7

Press Release

02/09/2022

‘State Senator Steve McClure (R-Springfield) released the following statement following the Governor’s announcement of his partial lifting of the indoor mask mandate: “While I’m glad that the Governor will be taking away some of the mask mandates, it’s clear that his decisions are based on political science instead of hard science. That is the only explanation for why he is allowing adults to go mask-less, while forcing children to mask up. He should have involved the General Assembly from the very beginning, shared the science and data he claimed he was using, and allowed us to hold hearings on state mitigation efforts.”’

‘State Senator Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) released the following statement after Governor Pritzker announced the partial lifting of the statewide mask mandate: “Throughout the pandemic, Governor Pritzker has chosen a completely unilateral approach, with little to no transparency on the data he was basing decisions on. Today, he once again made a major decision with no input from the legislature, and it’s even more clear this time that it was based on politics more than science.”’

‘State Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) released the following Governor JB Pritzker’s announcement that he would be partially lifting the statewide mask order: “It is now abundantly clear that JB Pritzker’s ‘scientists’ are actually the Governor’s of NY, NJ, CT and California. What a joke. And now he is saying that kids in school are different than adults at the workplace – and all because he can’t keep his own bruised ego in check. Everyday more and more school districts, parents, and children are walking away from him in outright revolt! How dare a parent make a decision in their own child’s best interest - not JB Pritzker’s political interest.”’

‘State Senator Neil Anderson has released the following statement following the Governor’s announcement to end the state’s indoor mask mandate: “If we’ve learned anything from today’s announcement, it’s that we have now found out who the ‘scientists’ are that the Governor has been following—it’s the other Democrat politicians across the country. It’s clear that Pritzker’s rules have always been about politics, not science.”’

‘Senate Republican Leader Dan McConchie released the following statement in regard to the Governor’s new partial mask mandate: “One has to wonder if this is just about winning a lawsuit and maintaining his ability to exercise power over the people of this state.”’

‘From Senate Republican Leader Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods): “One has to wonder if this is just about winning a lawsuit and maintaining his ability to exercise power over the people of this state. The Governor’s continued piecemeal approach isn’t working and leads to confusion and frustration. It’s time to get back to living in a sense of normalcy and that begins with empowering individuals to be responsible for themselves. Learning to live with COVID-19 means getting to the point where we trust individuals and families to make the best decisions for their own health and safety.”’

These proposals would extend the amortization date for downstate public safety pension funds to the end of Municipal Fiscal Year (MFY) 2050 or later or decrease the required funding ratio to 80% of total actuarial liabilities in order to provide immediate financial relief to affected communities.”
