Bipartisan Group Of Lawmakers Call For Joint Hearing On Pontiac And Vandalia Prisons

Effingham Radio, Pontiac Daily Leader

Staff

05/06/2022

‘“The Pritzker administrations has not been transparent or forthcoming about what if any long-term plans are in place for Illinois prisons, which is a major reason why this process needs legislative oversight,” said State Senator Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington).’

‘“The Vandalia Correctional Center is one of the largest employers in the area, serving as an economic anchor for the surrounding communities, just as most prisons are for the areas where they are located. Any changes to these facilities could have absolutely devastating effects to the local economies,” said State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Vandalia).’

‘“The Department of Correction’s inability to provide a clear and consistent answer regarding their future plans for the Vandalia and Pontiac Correctional Facilities is yet another example of the Administration’s pattern of secrecy when it comes to correctional facilities,” said State Senator Terri Bryant (R-Bryant).’

‘“The complete lack of transparency and contradictory statements about the Pontiac and Vandalia Correctional Facilities has created unnecessary anxiety and uncertainty for both their employees and local communities,” said Senate Deputy Minority Leader Sue Rezin (R-Morris).’

UPDATED: Auditor General Report Slams Response to Deadly COVID-19 Outbreak at LaSalle Veteran's Home

The Illinoize

Patrick Pfingsten

05/05/2022

‘Statement from Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris), who represents the Home: “The audit tells the story of a governor who fatally mismanaged the state’s response, abdicated his responsibilities to protect the veterans of this state, and tried to hide it with an investigation he arranged with a predetermined outcome, ensuring his office escaped all accountability. Governor Pritzker and his political appointees intentionally misled legislators during public hearings as we sought answers for the families who lost loved ones but nineteen months after the outbreak began, the truth came out. He must finally accept responsibility for failing to act on the information his office sat on since day one. The Senate must hold legislative hearings to demand answers from the Pritzker Administration.”’

‘Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia), earlier today: “JB Pritzker campaigned on Bruce Rauner’s fatal mismanagement that lead to deaths from Legionnaires Disease in Quincy’s Veterans’ Home. I’ll agree that Rauner’s administration failed those veterans, because when you’re governor, the buck stops with you.’
