No timeline for special session, gun legislation as fall approaches

‘“I don’t feel like it’s appropriate for me to comment on the case involving Mr. Crimo,” Griffith said when pressed by Sen. John Curran (R-Downers Grove) to clarify the press releases.’

“Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) pointed to another mass shooting in which a loophole in the state’s gun laws was exposed. An employee at an Aurora warehouse opened fire at work in 2019 killing five people and injuring five responding police officers. The aftermath of the shooting revealed the gunman was a felon and the State Police were supposed to take the gun away from the man, but never did.”

‘Senate Minority Leader Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) told reporters at the fair he has not heard about any gun control bills and said his immediate concern is the State Police “making sure that we’ve closed any loophole so that someone like [Highland Park gunman Bobby Crimo] can’t buy any firearm in the future.”’
